NITC to renovate fleet using internal capacities

National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) plans to overhaul its fleet and build new oil tankers with the help of domestic companies, announced the company's managing director.
According to Fars News Agency, Ali Akbar Safaei said on Wednesday, "We will try to renovate and overhaul our oil tankers using domestic manufacturers and therefore, we have inked two contracts with Sadra Company and Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex Co. (ISOICO) to build five oil tankers."
Noting that the Iranian oil tankers are now providing service to its former customers, he hoped that Tehran would be able to send its oil tankers to Europe with the removal of insurance sanctions, which, he said have been fully cancelled, and the setting of prices for the services.
In April, Safaei had announced that the former customers in Europe have voiced enthusiasm about the resumption of oil imports from Iran. "Former buyers of Iran's oil are waiting for the removal of sanctions and they have already begun talks with us," said Safaei.
He said that European ports are willing to host Iranian tankers as sanctions are largely hoped to be lifted.
